Background of the Study

Digital marketing has become an indispensable tool for businesses, especially startups, to reach a wide audience and influence consumer behavior. Through strategies like search engine optimization (SEO), content marketing, and social media campaigns, tech startups can engage with customers, build brand loyalty, and increase sales (Chaffey & Ellis-Chadwick, 2024).

In Kebbi State, tech startups face competition from both local and international companies. Digital marketing allows these startups to create awareness and attract customers, but its effectiveness depends on understanding consumer behavior and tailoring strategies accordingly. This study explores the digital marketing strategies used by tech startups in Kebbi State and their impact on consumer behavior.

Statement of the Problem

Tech startups in Kebbi State often struggle to design digital marketing strategies that effectively influence consumer behavior. Many startups lack the resources, expertise, and data to craft personalized marketing campaigns that resonate with their target market. As a result, their digital marketing efforts may fall short of driving the desired consumer engagement and sales growth (Musa & Ibrahim, 2024).

Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the digital marketing strategies employed by tech startups in Kebbi State.
  2. To evaluate the impact of these strategies on consumer behavior.
  3. To explore the challenges tech startups face in effectively utilizing digital marketing.

Research Questions

  1. What digital marketing strategies are used by tech startups in Kebbi State?
  2. How do these strategies influence consumer behavior in Kebbi State?
  3. What challenges do tech startups face in effectively using digital marketing strategies?

Research Hypotheses

  1. Digital marketing strategies significantly influence consumer behavior in Kebbi State.
  2. Tech startups that effectively use digital marketing strategies experience higher consumer engagement.
  3. Limited resources hinder the effectiveness of digital marketing strategies in tech startups.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study will focus on tech startups in Kebbi State that have implemented digital marketing strategies between 2023 and 2025. Limitations include possible biases in self-reported data from startups and a lack of access to detailed customer behavior data.
